2.2.3 Saving a Lecture

To save a lecture, the user (instructor or student) presses File->Save As... (or if a saved file already exists, File->Save). A standard "Save File" dialog will appear and the user saves the file to the desired location.

E-Class saves lectures in a special file format simply called EClass (.eclass). This file type essentially contains a zipped file structure (similar to the Open XML Files created by Microsoft Office 2007). Inside the file are the following components:

File/Directory Purpose
EClassHTML (.ehtml) Contains the lecture content (broken into slides, each with number tags). This file can be rendered in any standard web browser.
Images (directory) Contains the vector-based images (each in its own file) that represent the layers on each slide.
Image Map (file) This file associates the images with the slides and layers with their appropriate location relative to the content.
Chat Log (file) Contains the entire chat from the lecture session.
Question Log (file) Contains the list of questions asked during the lecture.
