1. Introduction

This document defines the requirements for an academic grade management tool. The tool provides funtionality for a professor to manage grade information for all his or her classes in a centrally located server. This tool is designed to make grade management and grade publication convenient and easy through an intuitive interface. Grades are entered in a configurable spreadsheet interface. Grading curves can be manipulated graphically by dragging grade cutoffs on a histogram. A professor can manipulate grades any time offline or online.

Students are able to access the grades and classroom statistics at any time through a student interface. The grades of other students are visible in a randomized and anonymous format. Students may enter a desired grade for the course to see sample grades needed to get the desired final grade. Students my also enter estimated grades for assignments to see an estimated final grade.

The grader tool also includes an electronic handin tool. Assignments are timestamped to confirm submission time.

Due to the sensitive nature of grades, security is integrated from end to end in order to prevent grade tampering and loss of data.
