1.2. System Personnel

The personnel involved in the Grader Tool project are organized into the following groups:

  1. end users
    1. instructors
    2. teacher aides
    3. students
    4. system administrators
    5. outside users
  2. system developers
  3. software engineering students
  4. outside parties
End users are those who use the Grader Tool for its intended purpose. Instructors have grade databases and tools stored on their personal computers. Teacher aides have similar functionality to the instructors, except that the aides may not designate or alter assignments. Students have accounts through which they view their personal grade information, along with class statistics. System administrators have access to perform overall system administration functions, including user and group leader registration. Outside users are those who use the Grader tool for purposes not intended by the developers.

The primary system developers are Jeff LaBarge, David Wheelwright, Ryder Ross, and Robert Reeser. Their work is part of a software engineering project for instructional purposes. The project supervisor is Gene Fisher, serving as both project manager and customer for the purposes of this project.

The Grader Tool is intended to serve as an example for use in software engineering courses. The software engineering students who use the Grader Tool for this purpose focus on the artifacts of its development rather than its use as a functioning tool.

The Grader Tool is available as public domain software for use by outside parties. The project directory is located at http://www.csc.calpoly.edu/~gfisher/projects/grader.
