1.5.1. SnapGrades
SnapGrades is an online-based grade book system designed to allow students to keep track of their progress throughout the course. This system provides many
customizable features for instructors to set up their class exactly out they want. With its extensive list of abilities, SnapGrades proves to be one of the top online-based
grade book systems available.
Overall, SnapGrades has the ideal functionality. PolyGrade should resemble many features presented in this software. However, a major downside to SnapGrades is
its absence of dockable windows and a graphical interface for both instructor and student.
Good Features:
- Custom grade scale with the option to add +/- grades
- Enter scores as percentage, raw score, or letter grade
- Custom grading; allows instructors to weight by category and/or individual assignment and allows instructor to curve the grades
- Import student roster from the administrative system
- Provides automatic backups
- Allows instructor to save a history of previous classes
- Secure Teacher's Assistant log in with controlled access
- Custom marks for missing/excused/late work
- Auto save feature
Bad Features:
- Parental access
- "What If" grade prediction only available from instructor's view (PolyGrade should allow students to use this feature)
- Limited student view; students cannot see other student grades in the class
- Not standard spreadsheet layout which allows for various sorting styles
- Provides limited class statistics
- Attendance and seating charts not required
- Bilingual
- Report cards and comments posted for individual students
Missing Features:
- Graphical interface with a histogram and pie chart
- Graph in student view showing historical grade trends in the class
- Customizable color schemes
- Dockable windows
