Postive Impacts.
The positve impacts of a comprehensive scheduling system are significant. The streamlined approach of having teachers enter their preferred classes would put less pressure on the system maintainence staff and would also result in more professor control and satisfaction. With a proper scheduling algorithm, faculty utility could be maximized. The students would also benefit from a more advanced and user-friendly program. The current student scheduling program, PASS, has some drawbacks could be be improved upon and make for a more enjoyable student experience.
Negative Impacts.
The negative impacts for a new comprehensize scheduling system consist include cost and possible job displacement. The upfront cost of most custom software is signifcant. However, this is a significant program with many intricancies, so the cost would undoubtely be above average. Job displacement would most likely occur. Although in the long run this will help the school, the employee(s) tasked with entering the verfiying the current schedules would be displaced.
