The user has the option to sort by column, simply by clicking on one of the identifiers on the top bar. In past examples, such as Figure 2.4.1-10, the user has clicked the 'Last Name' identifier, and the instructor list is sorted in ascending order by the letters in their last name.
The user also has the option to filter through the Instructors window, as shown in Figure 2.4.3-2.

The user has chosen to 'Filter by' 'Last name'. The user types in parts of the string, the list is filtered real time, and only the instructors who fit the search criteria are shown. The user has typed in the letter "H", the list is updated, and only the instructors with a last name beginning with the letter "H" are displayed.
