1.1. Problem Statement

The general problems to be solved by the Scheduler are the following:

  1. to provide a reliable and easy to use tool that generates a class schedule which meets all necessary constraints and is fair to the faculty
  2. to provide a secure group environment that manages a collection of individual professor preferences for the purposes creating a schedule to meet their preferences
  3. to save a ‘local’ copies of the global databases for each schedule to make them all independent of one another
  4. an easy method to save and retrieve old schedules for historical information needed by the scheduler
  5. to provide a method for student feedback of certain professors, classes, or class times when these aspects can still be changed, not after the fact

While some of these problems have been solved by a number of commercially available products, the Scheduler provides a solution with certain functional improvements over existing tools.
