1.5.2. Exam View Review

Exam View is part of a complete software package for test generation and test grading. It has all the basic features one would want in a test generation program. However, it is missing a high level of security and multiple user support that is needed at the university level.

Good Features:

• has all the basics of a good test generator
• allows the test to be exported to Blackboard or WebCT
• provides 13 different test question types include a new bimodal type
• provides a test hosting service for a quick way to post an exam on the internet
• provides a graphing tool which can be used to add a graphic to any question.
• allows dynamic content for questions so different categories can be used for different question types
• provides an advanced layout utility for nice looking exams
• provides a basic word processor for editing exams
• supports foreign characters and symbols

Bad Features:

• Exam view is platform dependant, in order to export to Blackboard or WebCT the user must be using windows
• doesn't not have different user modes
• provides little security, not nearly enough for university usage

Missing Features:

• needs to have multiple user levels: student, professor, proctor, administrator
• needs to be cross platform
• should provide each user with a unique user id and password
• should provide a question type which allows code to be written and uploaded onto the exam
• should have a built in exam grader for simple yes/no or multiple choice exams
