2.8 Schedule Management

The Schedule Management section goes over the dialogs that relate to the checking out of schedules. All schedules that have been created and checked into the server by an administrator can be viewed by any user. The most up-to-date versions are uploaded from the server upon logging in to this program. However, without checking out a schedule, you cannot edit it.

Administrators can check out schedules from the server with the Schedule Management - Administrator dialog. When an administrator checks out a schedule, it is locked so that no one else can check it out from the server (though they can still view the version that is on the server). The administrator can then edit the schedule. When the administrator checks it back in, then the version on the server is updated and unlocked so that others can check it out. Also, administrators can create schedules on their own computers and then check them into the server, at which point they can be viewed there and other administrators can check them out for editing.

Instructors can check out master schedules with the Schedule Management - Instructor dialog. They cannot check out schedules for specific terms. When an instructor checks out a master schedule, they are able to edit their preferences in the schedule. But since they can only edit their preferences, schedules that instructors check out are not locked. Anyone can still check them out. When the instructor checks the master schedule back in, their preferences are then updated in the version on the server.

Students cannot check out schedules, since they are only able to view them, not edit them.
