As soon as a student submits a question, it shows up in the instructor's chat log in blue.

At the same time, the student's name gets bumped up into the "Question" queue of the attendance window. When the instructor is ready to address the question, he clicks on the student's name in the question queue of the attendance window.

The students' names are never anonymous to the instructor's view. Section 2.7.1.2 for the Attendance Window describes the behavior when a student's name is clicked with a pending question.
