Widely used open-source and commercial systems that provide functionality comparable to the Scheduling Tool include:

Each of these systems proves a wide variety of scheduling funcationality. In terms of such functionality, the goal for the Scheduling Tool is to provide the important core features found in these tools as well as additional requirements not found in any of them. The Schduling Tool does provide functional improvements in a number of areas when compared to most open source and commericially available tools. These improvements are:

• A permanent set of Course, Instructor, Class Room, and Preference/Conflicts databases to base the quarterly schdules off of.
• The ability to easily and efficiently resolve conflicts and fine tune schedules post-creation.
• Import/Export schedules and database information to and from other systems.
• An easy to use and intuitive Graphic Interface complete with custom views and sorting options.
• The ability to simultaneously work on schedules and have multiple windows and projects open at once.

The goals for the Scheduling relating to public domain source code and sound pedagogical development are not met by any of the above commercial systems.
