The network environment of the Grader program consists of 3 separate systems.
The University, Computer Science Department, and a personal computer with the
grader program installed as seen in Figure 2.2.1.
Figure
2.2.1 : Network Environment.
The personal computer could be a student, a teacher
assistant, or an instructor logging in to one of the two servers. The SIS
Server requires authentication to access its database. Mostly likely only
instructors have permission to download the roster and submit the grades of the
class or classes they are teaching. The Computer Science Department Server
gives different privileges to different groups of users. For instance, a
student can open a gradebook but cannot correlate the grades with the a student
in his or her class except his or her own.
Gradebook offers the ability for administrators to retrieve
and store data locally and to Cal Poly SIS Server. Some of the most basic data
storage and retrieval mechanisms include:
·
Opening grade information locally and/or through the
department server
·
Saving grade information locally and/or through the
department server
·
Downloading / Synchronizing student roster from the
department server
